Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, came into existence on April I, 1955 as a station of the then Nigerian Broadcasting Service (NBS). The NBS itself was formally established by the British Colonial government on April 1, 1951. From being a Civil Service department, the NBS eventually was incorporated into the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) on April 1, 1956 and later into the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) on April 1, 1978.
From a 300-watt transmitting station, Radio Nigeria Ibadan has grown into a multi-channel establishment transmitting locally and nationally on three different bands - Short wave, Medium wave and Frequency Modulation.
